Welcome to our new Hedgehogs and their families!
The children are settling in very well after their Summer break and are making a successful transition from Reception.
This half term, as well as learning about Hedgehogs and mammals, we will be exploring the topic of dinosaurs.
In English, we will be building on their phonological confidence from Reception, adding in more spelling rules as the term goes on. Using 'Room on the broom,' we will be describing characters, settings and learning about adjectives.
In Maths, this term's focus is on place value, number bonds to ten, addition and subtraction. If you are practising sums with your child, it's helpful to discuss the inverse operation, too (e.g. if 2 + 1 = 3, then 3 - 1 = 2), as this is a key skill to master.
On Mondays, we will help your child to change their reading book for the week ahead. Please use the reading record book to write about any further reading done at home.
On Thursdays, the Hedgehogs class has PE, so please ensure your child's kit is in for this day.
On Fridays, the class will change their library books. Please be aware that they will not be able to borrow another one until their current book has been returned.
I look forward to a happy year with the Hedgehogs and if you have any questions, please just ask.
