Otter
Welcome to Otter class!
I hope you had a lovely summer and are ready to have an amazing time in Year 4. We have lots of exciting topics and books for this first half of the term. It will be a great pleasure to get to know you all – don't be nervous!
In English, we are starting with a whole school book called 'Flooded' by Mariajo Illustrajo. We will also do artwork related to this as well! After that, we will be creating our own legends inspired by the book called 'The Mermaid of Zennor' by Charles Causley before finishing the half term by making a tourist leaflet based on the book 'The baker by the sea' by Paula White.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value up to 10,000. Then moving onto addition and subtraction, before ending with Area. Keep practising counting in ones, tens, hundreds and thousands to help yourself. As well as focusing on timestables.
In RE, we will be delving into Christianity and in Science we will be looking at electricity. What makes circuits and how to complete them and draw them correctly, as well as identifying conductors and insulators. Maybe you could have a look at home at the different appliances in your home that use electricity? In Geography, we will be looking at our European neighbours. Identifying different countries in Europe and understanding what makes up the United Kingdom.
PE is on Tuesdays. Please ensure you come dressed in the correct PE uniform: black trousers/shorts, white top, black hoody and black trainers. No jewellery and long hair tied up. Our library session is on a Tuesday as well.
Please complete homework and reading. Make sure to bring in your reading record every day.
There will be a weekly spelling quiz, please assist your children in studying for this. Don't forget spellings and Mymaths homework will set every Friday, starting week 2.
Please ensure that your child is:
- Reading at least three times a week
- Completing their Mymaths homework
- Practising times tables daily
- Visiting Rockstars at least twice a week
- Practising Year 3/4 spelling words
- Learning and practising the Autumn 1 KIRFs
Any questions, please contact the office.
Many thanks,
Mrs Pain
