Fox Class
Welcome back! I hope you had an enjoyable Easter break before lots of exciting learning this half term.
In English, we are going to be exploring the book 'The Tear Thief' by Carol Ann Duffy. We will explore the importance of recognising and sharing our feelings through poetry and letters of advice before writing a newspaper article about the mystery of the stolen tears. Later in the half-term we will move on to read Chris Van Allsberg's book 'The Mysteries of Harris Burdick'. This will give us opportunities to create mysterious setting descriptions, use dialogue alongside action and character descriptions, and explore illustrations from the book. We will finish our work on this book by creating our own fantasy stories based on these illustrations.
In Maths, we will be starting the half-term by completing our work on Mass and Capacity before extending our prior Fractions learning by adding and subtracting fractions. We will then move on to calculating with money, including finding change, before exploring Time with Roman numerals, digital clocks and durations of time. Our KIRFs this half-term will also be focused on telling the time to the nearest hour, half hour, quarter hour, five minutes and to the minute.
In Year 3, our foundation subjects are usually taught in the afternoon, and we block teach our subjects. Music, Spanish, PSHE and PE are all taught weekly. This half-term we will be starting with Science where we will be working to understand Plants. We will explore how plants grow in different conditions, the structure of plants, and seed dispersal. In RE, we will be studying Islam by exploring the Qur'an and why it is important to Muslims. In Computing, the children will explore programming by using Scratch to create an animation. In History, we will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians by exploring the importance of the River Nile, hieroglyphics, gods and goddesses, and Ancient Egyptian customs around the afterlife. We will consolidate this unit with an exciting interactive Ancient Egyptian workshop towards the end of the half term! We will also link this learning to our Art unit, where we will be designing and creating our own Ancient Egyptian scrolls. In Spanish, we will learn how to describe where we live, in PSHE we will explore how to keep ourselves healthy and safe, and in PE we will be playing striking and fielding games, including Rounders. Finally, in Music we will be learning how to play the recorder!
If you have any questions, please speak to me in the playground either before or after school,
