Fox Class
Welcome back, I am looking forward to a fun and busy half-term!
I hope you have all had a lovely half term break and I look forward to hearing all the things that you have done.
In English, we are going to be completing our learning based around the book 'Escape from Pompeii', where we will be writing our own newspaper reports about the eruption of Vesuvius. We will then go on to use the book 'Small in the city' by Sydney Smith to inspire our learning. The children will create setting descriptions, write diary entries, letters of advice and some poetry, as well as write conversations and letters of advice before using all of this to help them write their own stories with a twist.
In Maths, we will finish our unit on addition and subtraction by using our knowledge of the column method to solve 1-step and 2-step problems. We will then be focusing on multiplication and division. We will start by using our previous learning and work with multiples of 2, 5 and 10 before moving on to work with multiples of 3, 4 and 8. We will also use previous learning about grouping and sharing to support this work. We will support this with our KIRFs and times tables practice.
In Year 3, our foundation subjects are usually taught in the afternoon, and we block teach our subjects. Music, PSHE and PE are all taught weekly. This half-term we will be starting with History and in this we will be learning about the Ancient Greeks and the impact they have had, and continue to have, on our lives. We will link this to our Art, where we will be making our own terracotta pottery. In Science we will be focusing on 'Animals and living things'. We will be focusing on healthy eating, learning about our skeleton as well as animal skeletons, as well as the bodies muscular system. Whilst in RE we will be looking more at Christianity. We will be exploring the Christians view of who Jesus was and revisiting the Christmas story. Throughout the half-term we will be practising our Christmas songs in preparation for our Carol Concert.
If you have any questions please speak to me in the playground either before or after school,
Mr Marshall and Mrs Manuel
