🌟 Welcome to Beaver Class! 🌟  

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful summer break and are ready for a new term and year ahead!

In English, we will begin by creating a fact file about beavers. We will then begin our first book of the term 'Frindleswylde' by Natalia & Lauren O'Hara, where we will be writing dialogue, persuasive speeches and a narrative sequel. 

In Maths, we will begin by looking at numbers up to 10,000, how to partition them and how to round the number if you do not need to be precise. 

In Science, we will be investigating animals (including humans) and learning about the digestive process and the role our teeth play. 

In history, we will be learning about a new topic for 2026/2027, 'How children's lives have changed'. This will allow us to see the differences between our lives today and those of our parents and grandparents. 

In music, we have been very lucky as a professional trumpet teacher will be coming in to teach us the trumpet on a Monday morning. They will be with us for the whole year, so hopefully, we will all be experts by the end!

We will start our Guided Reading sessions this year with Lemony Snicket's 'A series of Unfortunate Events'. We will use our knowledge of vocabulary, inference, retrieval and summarisation to really understand the book as well as practising reading fluently and with expression. 

PE will take place on a Tuesday afternoon (Don't forget your P.E. kit!) and we will be starting with gymnastics. 

As the weather can still be unpredictable, a light coat or jumper is recommended. Please ensure all clothing and water bottles are clearly labelled so they can be returned if misplaced.

Weekly spelling quizzes will continue, and both spellings and MyMaths homework will be set every Friday. Please assist your children in studying for these. 

We’re looking forward to a brilliant term ahead with lots of learning, curiosity, and new experiences.

Please ensure that your child is:

Reading at home at least three times a week.

Visiting Rockstars at least twice a week – found at - Times Tables Rock Stars: Play
Practising Year 3/4 spelling words ready for weekly tests on Fridays.

Year 4 - Multiplication test

In June, your child will need to take a short online test to make sure their times tables knowledge is at the expected level, answering questions up to 12x12. As well as practicing times tables and Rockstars at school, please ensure your child is recalling multiplication facts at home too.
