Dear Kestrel Class,

Welcome back, I hope you all had a good summer holiday. I’m so excited to be teaching you this year. We’ve got a busy but fun year ahead, and I'm looking forward to all the new learning that we will be doing this year. This year, we’re lucky to have Mrs. Tottle and Mrs Reed supporting our class.

In English, our writing this term will be inspired by two texts: Robot Girl by Malorie Blackman and The Man who walked between the towers by Mordical Gerstein. The twist in Robot Girl is sure to be an interesting way to start the year. We will use these texts to write a science-fiction narrative and a biography.

In Maths, we will be working on place value and numbers to 10,000, then we will be adding and subtracting in the same number range. Please ensure that you are doing your my maths homework once it is set, as this will help consolidate the learning that we do in class.

This term in Science, we will be looking at mixtures and separations. We will do lots of different experiments which are sure to be a highlight of the term.

In History, we will look at The Vikings. This topic is interesting: we will be asking: Were the Vikings raiders, traders or something else?

Information for Parents:

Spellings: Will be sent out every Friday, with a quiz on the following Friday. Please encourage the children to practise their spellings using their word lists.

Reading: Please continue to read with your child at least twice a week. Sign their reading record so that I can move them on as often as possible.

MyMaths homework is also set every Friday and is due the following Friday. This consolidates what they are learning in class and is a valuable learning tool.

PE is scheduled for every Monday, so children should come dressed appropriately.

Children are recommended to have applied sun cream before school as the weather continues to be warm.
