Kestrel
Dear Kestrel Class,
I hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
This term we hit the ground running with a visit from the Explorer Dome Planetarium. I’m sure that the children will enjoy learning more about the sun, planets and dwarf planets in our solar system, and finding out what happens to stars at the end of their lives. Hopefully, the night sky will be clear and they can spot the constellations that they have learnt about.
In English, we will be looking at two books by Michael Morpurgo: Kaspar – Prince of Cats and Beowulf. I’m sure the children will enjoy both these books and their writing will be inspired and creative.
In Maths, we will be continuing with multiplication and division, then we will be returning to fractions.
This term in Science, we will be looking at Properties of Materials. We will do several experiments which are sure to be a highlight for the children.
In History, we are looking at Crime and Punishment through the ages. We will focus on several times that the children have already learnt about and shown interest in, including: The Roman Times and The Tudor Times.
Spellings will be sent out every Friday, with a quiz on the following Friday. Please continue to encourage the children to practise their spellings using their word lists. I will also be sending home a Year5/6 Spelling list. Please help your child become familiar with these words and their spelling.
Reading: Please continue to read as frequently as possible. I would appreciate it if the children were reading at least twice a week at home.
MyMaths: Homework is also set every Friday and is due the following Friday.
PE is scheduled for every Monday, so children should come dressed appropriately.
Children must bring a coat to school every day as the weather is still cold.
I am looking forward to another fun-filled half-term with your children. Please remember, I’m always happy to chat before or after school if you need anything at all.
Mrs Lesser
