Stoat

Spring 1

Welcome back Stoats

I hope that you all had a good Christmas holiday. We are looking forward to the new ahead with lots of new adventures.

Our term is fully packed with exciting new themes and opportunities.

We will be starting our term off with a new book in guided reading, Varjak Paw.

In English, we go on a new journey with ‘The Iron man’ and then embark on a new journey in ‘Westlandia’.

Starting from day one, we will be revising all time tables.  We strongly encourage parents to assist in helping their children learn their time tables, as this makes the learning in Maths a lot easier.

In Maths, this term we will start off with Multiplication and Division and then moving on with fractions, length and perimeter and then ending with some decimals.

In our wider curriculum we will be starting with Science where we will be looking at States of Mater.

In History we will be exploring the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings.

Our PE lesson will still be held every Tuesday. Please assure all learners have the correct PE attire on for this day. We will be learning how to play Hockey.

As the weather is still quite cold, we encourage learners to at least have a light rain coat or jumper with them. Please ensure all clothing is labelled.

Children must also bring a named water bottle to school every day.

There will be a weekly spelling quiz, please assist your children in studying for this.  Don't forget spellings and Mymaths homework will set every Friday.

Please ensure that your child is:

  • Reading at least three times a week
  • Completing their Mymaths homework
  • Practising times tables daily
  • Visiting Rockstars at least twice a week
  • Practising Year 3/4 spelling words
  • Learning and practising the Autumn 2 KIRFs

I am looking forward to our first term in Year 4!

Many Thanks

Mrs Keppler

Year 4 - Multiplication test

In June, your child will need to take a short online test to make sure their times tables knowledge is at the expected level, answering questions up to 12x12. As well as practicing times tables and Rockstars at school, please ensure your child is recalling multiplication facts at home too. You can find further information about the test at: Information for parents about multiplication check

Below I have attached a link to what the Year 4 times tables test will look like, this will be very useful for children to use at home: https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/

Guided Reading

This week in guided reading we started our new text, 'Butterfly lion' . After reading the blurb, we will be mading predictions about the book. We also used inference to start to build up  picture of the main character.

Parent Information

KIRFS

We will be sending home KIRFs sheets with their homework. These are Key Instant Recall Facts that the children need to know to support other areas of maths. There is a set stuck in their homework books and a second set of the same facts to display somewhere at home to help you with regular practise. They will get a new set each half term.
