Otter

Welcome to Otter class!

I hope you had a fantastic Christmas break and are ready to come back and learn!

In English, we are going to read 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. It is a modern fairy tale about a giant metal being who falls from a cliff and, after initially frightening a young boy and the local farming community, is pacified and befriended by a boy called Hogarth. The class will be writing their own mystery narratives from this story. After that, we will be reading 'Weslandia' by Paul Fleischman. Wesley is very different from the other children his age. He refuses to conform to their fashions and interests, which leaves him being bullied and with no friends. Building on what he's learnt in school, Wesley decides to grow his own food crop and found a civilisation over summer break. The class will create their own imagined narratives from it.

In Maths, we will be focusing on multiplication and division including multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, short multiplication method and informal written methods of multiplication. After that, we will be completing length and perimeter, followed by fractions.

In RE, we will be delving into Sikhism and their gurus. In Science, we will be looking at states of matter. Understanding for items can change state and what properties solids, liquids and gases have. In History, we will be learning about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
