Sparrow Hawk
Welcome to Sparrow Hawk Class
Sparrowhawks,
We are on the countdown to the end! How time flies when you're having fun!
This term will be another exciting one, leading up to our last half-term together!
In English, we will start by reading Freedom Bird by Jerdine Nolen. We will use this book to write biographies, non-narrative poems, explanations, dialogue, postcards, letters of advice, descriptions, recounts and narrative poems. Then we are exploring Children of the Benin Kingdom by Dina Orji, which we will be using to write a non-chronological report.
In Maths, we are completing lots of fun units. We are finishing off our shape and measurement unit before starting; position and direction, decimals and looking back at everything we have covered so far in year 5!
This term in Science, this term we will be looking at lots of different things. We will be looking at some forces used in leavers and pulleys as well as material properties such as hardness, transparency and conductivity before looking back at our favourite topic so far space! This time we are looking specifically at space junk!
In History, we are looking back to Ancient Greece and how the way of life of the ancient Greeks has influenced our lives today.
Spellings will be sent out every Friday, with a quiz on the following Friday. Please continue to encourage the children to practise their spellings using their word lists.
Don't forget about those big spelling lists we gave you in the last half-term. Please keep trying to practise these words. We will check again at the end of the school year, and we have made so much progress already. The more you learn this year, the easier next year will be!
Reading: Please continue to read as frequently as possible. I would appreciate it if the children were reading at least twice a week at home. We have been working really hard on expression when reading fiction, so please give your children the chance to show off their speaking!
MyMaths: Homework is also set every Friday and is due the following Friday.
PE is scheduled for every Monday, so children should come dressed appropriately. This means completely plain black hoodies/ jumpers without logos or decals, plain white tops and sensible trainers. This is really important as we come into the summer months and are outside a lot.
Children must bring a coat to school every day as the weather is still unpredictable.
I cannot wait to finish off this fabulous year with you all!
As always feel free to catch me before or after school or ask for a meeting if you have any concerns.
Thank you!
Miss Jardine
