Hedgehog

Welcome to Hedgehog Class

We hope you all had a wonderful, chocolate filled Easter break! :) We are now entering the summer term, let's hope the sun continues to make a daily appearance... fingers crossed!

In English, we are going to be reading 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers for the first three weeks. We will be greeted by a sad, lost animal who we will have to help  find their way home, to be helpful we will have to write some instructions. We will then go on to read 'Yeti and the Bird', by Nadia Shireen, a story that links to the importance of friendship. The children will be writing the story about the two seemingly different characters in third person and past tense.

In Maths, we will be focusing on multiplication and division. The children will practise counting in 2s, 10s and 5s, as well as learning how to make equal groups to show division. We will also begin to explore fractions. At the end of each unit we will continue to complete end of unit assessments, which we will send home for you to see how they are doing in their learning. We are happy to discuss these if you have any queries or concerns. The children should be proud of the ones they have completed so far!

In Year One, our foundation subjects continue to be taught in the afternoon. Music, PSHE and PE are all taught weekly.  Our afternoon learning this half term will start with History, with the topic, 'How Have Explorers Changed the World'.  We will be learning about some famous explorers and all the amazing things they discovered. We will also have topics covering Computing, RE, DT and Science. Our DT topic this half term is very delicious indeed, we are going to be designing and making our very own smoothies - we can't wait to see which yummy fruits you choose! The Science topic is all about plants, we will discover and learn about the different parts of a plant and the process in which they grow. In RE we will focus on the religion of Judaism..

Please feel free to talk to us before or after school on the playground if you have any questions.

General reminders:

Our PE lessons are on Friday afternoons. We will also be visiting the Library on Friday's and the children need to bring their library books in then so that they can choose a new book.

Please bring reading books to school every day - we will normally change them on a Monday.

With the weather now changing to be autumnal, please send your child in with a coat, with a waterproof one on standby!!
