Red Deer

Welcome to Red Deer Class!

Welcome to Year 3!

We hope you all had a fantastic Summer holidays and are ready and refreshed for the new school year!

In English, we are going to be reading 'Flooded' by Mariojo Ilustrajo for the first two weeks. We will be reading this story across the whole school which will be a wonderful way to explore the book on many different levels. We will then be reading 'The Wilderness' by Steve McCarthy, and later in the half term we will move on to 'Leon and the Place Between'.

In Maths, we will begin by focusing on Place Value of numbers up to 1000. We will look at different ways to represent numbers, how we can partition them and how to compare and order the numbers. We will be using a variety of resources to support us with this, including number lines and a range of concrete resources such as counters and base 10. Later in the half term, we will move on to working with addition and subtraction.

In Year 3, our foundation subjects are usually taught in the afternoon, and we block teach our subjects.  Music, PSHE and PE are all taught weekly. We will be starting with Art and this is also going to be the focus for the rest of the school and will be linked to the learning we will be doing in English based around the book 'Flooded'. We will then move on to studying 'Light' in Science, E-safety in our computing lessons, Christianity in RE and Italy in Geography before making pizzas in our DT lessons.

If you have any questions, please speak to me in the playground either before or after school,

Many thanks,
Miss Wilkinson and Mrs Ross
