Red Deer
Welcome to Red Deer Class!
Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely half term break. We have lots of exciting learning coming up in our last half term of the year!
In English, we are going to be exploring the book 'The Thames and Tide Club' by Katya Balen. We will learn about mudlarking and explore the treasures found along the River Thames. We will write letters of advice, setting descriptions and use dialogue in parts of narratives. This will help us to write our own fantasy adventure based on a mudlarking exploration! Later in the half-term we will move on to read Joseph Coelho and Richard Johnson's book 'Our Tower'. This will give us opportunities to use our senses to create setting descriptions and poems, and to consolidate our narrative skills learnt throughout the year before our final piece of narrative writing of the year!
In Maths, we will be starting the half-term by completing our work on Time before moving on to Shape and Statistics. We will have opportunities to collect our own data to analyse using different statistical methods. Our KIRFs this half-term will also be focused on multiplication and division facts for the 8 times table.
In Year 3, our foundation subjects are usually taught in the afternoon, and we block teach our subjects. Music, Spanish, PSHE and PE are all taught weekly. This half-term we will be starting with Geography where we will explore our local area by analysing different land use before comparing Sandhurst with New Delhi. In Science, we will conduct our own experiment to find out whether hand span affects grip strength. We will also present our findings in an oral presentation! In RE, we will be studying Islam by learning about the Mosque and its importance to Muslims as a religious and community space. In DT, we will explore different types of product packaging before designing and creating our own 3D packaging. In History, we will be learning about the Roman invasion of Britain. We will discover what life in Ancient Rome was like, the causes and responses of the Roman invasion, and the impact of this on settlements in Britain. We will link our Computing topic to our Statistics unit in Maths as we will learn how to present data using computers. In Spanish, we will go on a journey around Latin America, in PSHE we will explore Economic Wellbeing and discuss our transition into Year 4, and in PE we will be practising our Athletics skills in preparation for Sports Day. Finally, in Music we will be continue learning how to play the recorder!
If you have any questions, please speak to me in the playground either before or after school,
Many thanks,
Miss Wilkinson and Mrs Ross
