Red Deer

Welcome to Red Deer Class!

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Christmas and New Year, and are ready for the exciting learning we are doing this half term!

In English, we are going to begin by exploring 'The Pied Piper of Hamlin', where we will be writing in role as a character, creating information reports, adverts and formal letters, before completing the unit by writing our own myth or legend! We will then move on to 'The Barnabus Project' by The Fan Brothers. In this unit, we will create descriptions, write instructions, letters of advice and some dialogue before going on to create a brochure.

In Maths, we will continue to focus on multiplication and division. We will begin by consolidating our learning from last half term and then move on to focus on written methods to solve long division and multiplication. After this, we will begin looking at measurement, including length and perimeter

In Year 3, our foundation subjects are usually taught in the afternoon, and we block teach our subjects. Music, PSHE and PE are all taught weekly. This half term we will start with History where we will learn about the Bronze Age, Stone Age and Iron Age. We will link this to our Art, where we will be making our own Cave Paintings. In Science, we will explore the topic of 'Rocks’. We will identify and classify different types of rocks by exploring their properties. We will also have the opportunity to conduct experiments to consolidate this learning further and explore how fossils are preserved over time and can be seen in different rock types. In RE, we will be exploring Islam. We will look at what Muslims believe about God and why, as well as gaining an understanding of who the Prophet Mohammed is and why his is important to Muslims. In out Computing unit this half term, we will explore the function of emailing and have a go at sending some emails to each other. In PE, we will be learning the main skills of Netball and putting this into practise by playing some matches. In PSHE, we will explore our dreams and goals, and wok collaboratively in groups on an exciting project, In Spanish, we will learn the names of different instruments, linking to our Music unit where we will be learning to play the Ukelele!

If you have any questions, please speak to me in the playground either before or after school,

Many thanks,
Miss Wilkinson and Mrs Ross
