Squirrel
Welcome to Squirrel Class
Hello and welcome back. I hope you had a lovely half term. I can't believe we are coming into the final part of Year 2!
English:
In English, we will be starting off the half term by reading 'Last Stop on Market Street' by Matt de la Peña. During this unit we will be looking at the different senses and writign a poem based on what we might hear on a bus journey. We will end the half term by reading 'Lizzy and the Cloud' by Eric Fan.
Our English lessons will ensure the children can do the following:
- Consider what they are going to write before beginning.
- Evaluate their writing with the teacher and other pupils.
- Proof-read to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Learn how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly, including full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas for lists and apostrophes for contracted forms and the possessive (singular).
Maths:
In Maths, we will begin the half term by starting our unit on statistics where we will be looking at and interpreting tables, tally charts, block diagrams and pictograms. We will end the year by looking at position and direction where we will investigate movement and turns.

Helpful Reminders:
-
Please make sure your child has their reading record and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.
-
Our PE day this year will be every Thursday. The children should come to school in their PE kits on a Thursday.
-
We will be visiting the Library on Thursday afternoons. Please can children bring their library books in on Thursdays so that they can change them and choose different stories to share with you at home.
-
To minimise the risk of lost property, we ask that all clothing items are clearly labelled with a name, even PE kit items.
-
