Squirrel
Welcome to Squirrel Class
Hello and welcome back. I hope you had a lovely Easter break and are ready for the Summer term!
English:
In English, we will be starting off the half term by reading 'The Minpins' by Raoald Dahl. In this book we will be writing predictions about what we think is going to happen as well as writing some character descriptions. We will end the unit by writing out own version of the story!
Our English lessons will ensure the children can do the following:
- Consider what they are going to write before beginning.
- Evaluate their writing with the teacher and other pupils.
- Proof-read to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Learn how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly, including full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas for lists and apostrophes for contracted forms and the possessive (singular).
Maths:
In Maths, we will begin the half term by starting our unit on fractions. We will be looking at recognising and finding a half, a quarter, a third and three quarters of different amounts before looking at unit and non-unit fractions. Our KIRFs this half term are time, so keep practising telling the time at home.
Topic
On Thursdays we have our PE learning. This half term we will be practising our racket and ball skills outside.
In History we will be exploring the question of 'What is a Monarch?' Finding all about the King and the royal family.
In Science, we will be starting a unit on Humans. We will explore the growth of humans aswell as seeing how exercise helps us stay healthy.
In RE, we will be looking at the religion of 'Hinduism'
Our PSHE leanring this half term is 'safety and the changing body'.
Helpful Reminders:
-
Please make sure your child has their reading record and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.
-
Our PE day this year will be every Thursday. The children should come to school in their PE kits on a Thursday.
-
We will be visiting the Library on Thursday afternoons. Please can children bring their library books in on Thursdays so that they can change them and choose different stories to share with you at home.
-
To minimise the risk of lost property, we ask that all clothing items are clearly labelled with a name, even PE kit items.
-
