Hello and welcome to Year 2! We can't wait to have such a super year with you all.

English:

In English, we will be starting off the half term by reading 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. We will be using adjectives and expanded noun phrases to describe Golidlocks, before looking at anothe text called "Me and You"  by Anthony Browne.  This story focusses on Golidlock's perspective, giving the children the opportunity to explore a traditional story from a different viewpoint.  We will then celebrate National Poetry Week learning and performing a range of poems, as well as creating our own.

Maths:

In Maths, we will begin the half term by starting our unit on Place Value to 100.  The children will learn how to partition 2-digit numbers, compare them, and solve problems using them.  We will then move on to addition and subtraction.  

Topic

On Thursdays we have our PE learning. This half term we will be practising our multisports skills. 

We started the year learning all about badgers which has led us nicely onto our Science topic of this half term which is Living Things and their Habitats.  In DT, we will be creating our own ferris wheels - we will be inviting parents in to help us out with this on Monday 28th September; so please look out for an email with further information.

In RE, we will be comparing Christianity and Judaism and our PSHE learning is learning about keeping our bodies and minds healthy.

We will finish our half term with our History topic which is learning how school was different in the past.  To support the children in this topic, there is a school trip planned to Basingstoke's Milestones Museum - please look out for more information regarding this coming soon!

Helpful Reminders:

• Please make sure your child has their reading record and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.

• Our PE day this year will be every Thursday. The children should come to school in their PE kits on a Thursday. 

• We will be visiting the Library on Thursday afternoons. Please can children bring their library books in on Thursdays so that they can change them and choose different stories to share with you at home.

• To minimise the risk of lost property, we ask that all clothing items are clearly labelled with a name, even PE kit items.
