Welcome to Badger Class

Hello Badgers, I hope you enjoyed your well deserved time off with your grown-ups. Here is what we will be doing in the next couple of weeks.

In English, children will be learning about two poems by Robert Louis Stevenson: ‘From a Railway Carriage’ and ‘A Child’s Thought”. We will be planning and writing our own poems linked to the words and writing techniques found in the poems. This will help develop positive attitudes towards and stamina for writing.

Our Maths learning will focus on Multiplication and Division. Our lessons will help children to complete the following:

  • Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers.

  • Calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division within the multiplication tables and write them using the multiplication (×), division (÷) and equals (=) signs.

  • Show that multiplication of two numbers can be done in any order (commutative) and division of one number by another cannot.

  • Solve problems involving multiplication and division, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and multiplication and division facts, including problems in contexts.

Afternoons in Badgers will all be about Science and Materials. Children will identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. Through some exciting experiments, we will find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

We will also find time to talk about our topic in PSHE: dreams and goals. Badgers will discuss realistic goals and think about how to achieve them.

On Thursday we have our PE learning. This term is all about Gymnastics. Children will develop their competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities while promoting healthy, active lives.

Helpful Reminders:

  • Please make sure your child has their reading journals and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.

  • Our PE day this year will be every Thursday. Children can come to school in PE kit on Thursday and wear it all day.

  • Badgers visit the Library on Thursday. Please make sure your child has their book to return.

  • To minimise the risk of lost property, we ask that all clothing items are clearly labelled with a name, even PE kit items.

Thank you,

Mr Dale smiley
