Welcome to Badger Class

Welcome to Badger Class

Hello Badgers, here is what we have planned for our first weeks back into our final term!

In English, we will be looking at the book "The Owl and The Pussy-cat" by Edward Lear. The children will explore the poems features to produce their own poem.

Our English lessons will ensure children can do the following:

  • Consider what they are going to write before beginning.

  • Evaluating their writing with the teacher and other pupils.

  • Proof-reading to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • Learn how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly, including full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas for lists and apostrophes for contracted forms and the possessive (singular).

Our Maths learning will be all about time. Together, we will describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three quarter turns.

Our Maths lessons will ensure children can do the following:

  • Compare and sequence intervals of time

  • Tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times

  • Know the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day.

Wider Curriculum:

Badgers really enjoyed exploring animals and their offspring with a school trip to Odds Farm Park. In accordance with Science Week, we are continuing to use our investigation hats through a range of many fun and exciting experiments to identify variables, features of a fair test and how to record data/predictions. In Geography, the children will be learning our topic "All Around The World". Here, Badgers will use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the countries, continents and oceans across the world. Badgers will also continue to learning about the religion of Sikhism. Lessons will help children discover places of worship and the significance of them to Sikhs and their practice.

We will also find time to talk about our topic in PSHE; "Changing Me". Badgers will discuss what is meant by change and how to manage and accept change!

On Thursday we have our PE learning.  This term we will be working on our athletics skills. Perhaps you could continue to practise this at home with your grown-ups!

Helpful Reminders:

  • Please make sure your child has their reading journals and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.

Thank you,

Mr Dale smiley
