Rabbit
Welcome to Rabbit Class!
Welcome to Year 1,
We hope you all had a restful and joyful summer holiday. We can't wait to hear all about what you got up to! We were very lucky with the warm weather we had.
In English, we are going to be reading 'Flooded' by Maria Ilustrajo for the first two weeks - this is a story that is going to read across the whole school, very exciting, There will be exciting props to explore and discover around the school too! We will then go on to read 'Cave Baby', by Julia Donaldson where we will be creating labels and captions before re-telling the story. Just before we finish for our half term break we will read the story of 'I Want My Hat Back', written by Jon Klassen. We will be writing a story sequel, and to get some great ideas we will be asking questions as if we are the characters.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, sorting, counting and representing, and then we will move onto addition and subtraction. Within the second unit of work we will be introducing parts, wholes, the part whole model and how to write number sentences. By the end of the half term the children will have completed two end of topic assessments. As the children complete a unit of work from White Rose, we assess them to gain their overall understanding of the unit. The data collected from that is then used to plan future consolidation sessions to ensure all gaps are covered. The assessment they complete is sent home with them so you can see how they got on. The assessments are done in small groups, and the children enjoy showing off what they can do!
In Year One, our foundation subjects are usually taught in the afternoon, and we block teach our subjects. Music, PSHE and PE are all taught weekly. Our afternoon learning this half term will start with Art. Again, this is another whole school project, showcasing all of the different art forms across the school. We will then go on to History where the children will be looking at the difference between 'Holidays Then and Now'. This half term the children will also cover Science, Computing and RE.
Please feel free to talk to me before or after school on the playground if you have any questions, I am looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Miss Benn :)
General reminders:
Our PE lessons are on Friday afternoons. We will also be visiting the Library on Fridays and the children need to bring their library books in then so that they can choose a new book.
Please bring reading books to school every day - we will normally change them on a Monday.
With the weather now changing to be autumnal, please send your child in with a coat, with a waterproof one on standby!!
