Science at College Town
“I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious”
Albert Einstein
At College Town our vision is to ignite pupil’s curiosity and encourage them to confidently explore and discover the world around them.
To achieve this, we provide exciting, practical hands-on experiences that encourage questioning. Our lessons, whenever possible, are linked to other areas of the curriculum. Teachers have the professional flexibility to plan from a variety of resources to ensure that the 2014 NC objectives are met and to maximise the learning experience for their class.
Our overview demonstrates how we have organised the Programmes of Study across the year groups. Within this, certain areas are repeated across year groups, meaning that children revisit a particular topic in each year of primary school, but with increasing difficulty and with a different focus each time.
Our lessons are either taught on a weekly basis or in small blocks, to ensure continuity and help embed learning in long term memory. All science teaching will involve plenty of experimenting: finding out from first-hand experience and testing hypotheses, in line with the working scientifically strand from the National Curriculum.
