Welcome to Squirrel Class
Hello Squirrels I hope you have enjoyed all the things that we have been learning this half term, you have certainly been working hard. We have lots more exciting planned and here are some of the things we will be doing over the next few weeks.
In English the Squirrels are looking at the book ‘The Tear Thief’ by Carol Ann Duffy. We will use the book to explore emotions, to consider whether the character of the Tear Thief is good or bad and to write a diary entry.
Our English lessons will ensure children can do the following:
- Consider what they are going to write before beginning.
Evaluating their writing with the teacher and other pupils.
Proof-reading to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Learn how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly, including full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas for lists and apostrophes for contracted forms and the possessive (singular).
In Maths we will be spending some time consolidating the learning we have been doing already this year. We will be using our knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to help us solve 1-step and 2-step number problems. We will practise reading the questions carefully to help us understand what we are being asked to do and then using our skills to choose the correct way to solve the problem and the resources we need to help us.
Our afternoon learning will be focusing on our Science topic “Humans”. The Squirrels will be learning about the similarities between humans and other animals, as well as thinking about what all animals need to survive. We will then learn about what we need to eat to have a healthy, balanced diet and other things that we need to do to keep our bodies fit and healthy.
We will also find time to talk about our topic in PSHE; "Healthy Me". The Squirrels will discuss what is meant by a healthy lifestyle and how to maintain good physical and mental wellbeing.
On Thursday we have our PE learning. This term we will be working on our athletics skills. Perhaps you could continue to practise this at home with your grown-ups!
Please make sure your child has their reading journals and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.
Our PE day this year will be every Thursday. The children should come to school in their PE kits on a Thursday.
We are now able to visit the library in school. We will be doing this on a Thursday afternoon. Please can children bring their library books in every Thursday.
To minimise the risk of lost property, we ask that all clothing items are clearly labelled with a name, even PE kit items.
