Welcome to Squirrel Class
I hope you had a restful and enjoyable half term break.
We have lots of exciting things happening this half term, including our school trip to St George's Church on Wednesday 13th March.
In English, we will be looking at 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Drew Daywalt. We will be creating our own crayon characters and using these in role play and to write our own letters. We will then be writing a non-chronological report using 'The Flower' by John Light before exploring a film story called 'The Way Back Home'.
Our English lessons will ensure the children can do the following:
- Consider what they are going to write before beginning.
- Evaluate their writing with the teacher and other pupils.
- Proof-read to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Learn how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly, including full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas for lists and apostrophes for contracted forms and the possessive (singular).
In Maths, we are continuing learning about Multiplication and Division. Afterwards, we will move on measures, length and height.
In Science, we will be learning all about plants.
Once we have finished this learning, we will begin our Geography topic all about the United Kingdom.
In RE, we will continue our learning about Christianity by focusing on the Easter story and will finish this by going on a trip to St George's Church!
In Art, we will be looking at the work of William Morris and use printing to make our own sheet of wallpaper.
In Computing, we will be developing our ICT skills by learning how to use PowerPoint effectively.
On Thursdays we have our PE learning. This half term we will be practising racquet and ball skills.
Please make sure your child has their reading record and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.
Our PE day this year will be every Thursday. The children should come to school in their PE kits on a Thursday.
We will be visiting the Library on Thursday afternoons. Please can children bring their library books in on Thursdays so that they can change them and choose different stories to share with you at home.
To minimise the risk of lost property, we ask that all clothing items are clearly labelled with a name, even PE kit items.
