Squirrel
Welcome to Squirrel Class
Welcome back to school after your summer holidays! I hope you had a great break. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and having a fantastic year together!
We have lots of exciting learning coming up this half term.
English:
In English, we will be studying the book 'Wolves' by Emily Gravett. We will learn all about wolves and make our own informative leaflet to present all of the exciting facts we have discovered. Then, we will use 'Jim and the Beanstalk' by Raymond Briggs to write our own traditional tale with a twist.
Our English lessons will ensure the children can do the following:
- Consider what they are going to write before beginning.
- Evaluate their writing with the teacher and other pupils.
- Proof-read to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Learn how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly, including full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas for lists and apostrophes for contracted forms and the possessive (singular).
Maths:
In Maths, we are learning about Place Value. We will be looking at numbers up to 100 and partitioning them into their tens and ones.
Foundation Subjects:
On Thursdays we have our PE learning. This half term we will be practising multi-skills.
In Science, we will be learning about different habitats and the animals that have adapted to live there.
Our Computing learning will teach us all about staying safe on the internet.
In History, we will be learning about the history of flight and some of the pioneers of air travel.
Our DT learning will include making our own moving vehicles out of Lego and in RE we will be looking at core Christian beliefs.
Helpful Reminders:
Please make sure your child has their reading record and a labelled water bottle in school every day and that their jumpers are clearly labelled.
Our PE day this year will be every Thursday. The children should come to school in their PE kits on a Thursday.
We will be visiting the Library on Thursday afternoons. Please can children bring their library books in on Thursdays so that they can change them and choose different stories to share with you at home.
To minimise the risk of lost property, we ask that all clothing items are clearly labelled with a name, even PE kit items.
If you would like some suggestions to find information for the children's homework then please look at the links listed below.
Thank you,
Miss Wilkinson
